Health & Safety

Health and Safety is of paramount importance at PFS, we take it very seriously.

We have fostered a culture where everyone takes responsibility for Health and Safety, and this is evident when an Apprentice will feel comfortable enough to remind a Senior Manager to wear safety glasses.

One of our key values is “to ensure everyone gets home safely.”

Our SAFE AND SOUND Logo underlines our motivation towards Health and Safety, and is on our safety vests, stationery and all our vehicles.

PFS Engineering is committed to the continuous improvement in the implementation and management of Health & Safety in our business, as is demonstrated by:

1.ACC WSMP – Tertiary Accreditation.
  • * Tertiary is the highest level of ACC accreditation, and puts PFS in the top tier of fabricators/contractors in NZ. To achieve this, ACC performed a detailed audit focussed in some depth on all our H&S systems and procedures, from policy though to implementation and records, to ensure it complied with and exceeded requirements of the act. We are subjectively extremely proud of our Tertiary accreditation.
2. Contractor Pre-qualification (CPNZ), Impac Prequal
  • CPNZ independently audit contractors who work for major NZ clients such as Contact Energy and Fonterra. This provides clients with an objective and independent evaluation of Contractors. Although it is a H&S focus it highlights how the contractors deliver the works, in relation to industry standards.

  • PFS H&S systems scored 93% on the CPNZ audit, which is well above industry standards for fabricators. A copy of the ‘score sheet’ is below, the full and detailed report is available should you wish to review it.

Health and Safety at Work Act, 2015

All our Managers and Team Leaders have been updated on the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act, 2015.

We use Bware Safety Manager, a cloud-based system that stores all our Health and Safety information, and this is supported by an App for smartphones and tablets.

This app allows our Engineers to report incidents and hazards and to carry out H&S checklists without the need for paper forms. This system is now well established in our workshops and on PFS work sites.

Project Managers and Project Engineers can create Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSP’s) with ease on Bware, and carry out the following on their Bware App for every Project site they work on:
  • Daily Briefs (Outline the tasks for the day, any new hazards, and expected visitors)
  • Pre –start site assessments
  • Tool-box minutes
  • H&S audit checklists
  • Staff training registers and records
  • Lifting Plans
  • Task analysis/ JSEA / Work plans
  • Hazard register and management
  • Hazardous materials
  • Safe operating procedures
