Steel form for AMETI bridge – unique shape with all surfaces curved in 3 dimensions.

Key elements:

  • Pier a unique 3-dimensional shape. 
  • 2 forms to cast a total of 4 Piers.
  • Steel plate with intermittent ribs.
  • Rebate section removed first after casting.
  • Two fluted forms bolted to the rebate section.
  • PFS took engineer's design and produced detailed design for forms.

Challenges:

  • Steel Plate tad tricky to bend in two directions.
  • Numerous design innovations made to achieve practical solutions.
  • Bolted Joint between form sections was a channel which twisted in 3D.
  • Obround shape fabrication was particularly interesting for form face, ribs, and stiffeners.
  • Face of steel was exceptional in achieving high off-shutter concrete finish.
