Rotokauri Hub Pedestrian Bridge

Rotokauri Hub Pedestrian Bridge

Key Elements:
• Main truss span
• An Access ramp and stairs from 'The Base' to main bridge span.
• Walk through lattice framed truss from bridge to platforms, with precast stairs inside. 2 off.
• Lift shafts with glazing and decorative panels, 3 off.
• Large SHS struts and braces welded into lattice trusses to form walk through bridge
• Aluminum panels, with laser cut design, between braces to form balustrades.

Challenges:
• Architectural design and strutural design were both 2D. Complexities of detailed coordination could only be achieved with PFS 3D Model. PFS built the bridge to this 3D model as well as to the new NZS5131 code
• Detailed design using solid works 3D model to coordinate all truces with platforms and foundations
• Complex fixing of aluminium panles to carbon subframe had issues with disimilar materials for 1000's of fixings. PFS solved this with a simplified design of subframes between the SHS made of Aluminum square sections with panles rivited to same. An artistic design was cut into all panels to ensure once fitted between SHS braces it read as a single design over the length of the bridge.
• Original design had a bolt in top lattice truss so precast deck panels could be lifted in on site from above. This added complexity to fabrication transport and erection. PFS solved this by providing a fully welded structure and permanent deck formwork so panels could be cast in situ.
• Large crane lifts over rail lines during a block of line
• Tight programme set around new train connection from Auckland to Hamilton
